Spybot - Search & Destroy specializes in removing spyware, computer software that is installed without you knowing to track your surfing behavior. That information is then used to create a marketing profile about your habits. It is then sold to advertising companies who attempt to pop up ads while you surf. Spybot is different from the other Adware & Spyware removal applications because it stays true to it's name and only deals with spyware.
"Though no tool is a cure-all, Spybot is a powerful antidote to many ills," PCWorld. Many users recommend using Spybot in addition to another adware removal tool such as Ad-aware, for that very reason, no tool catches all malware.
Spybot's web site says "If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been 'hijacked' (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware."
