Eat plenty of fresh, seasonal foods. Cook them simply. Include lots of fruit and vegetables, don’t overdo the fattier foods, look for balance.

Cut down, down, down on fast foods and processed foods. Check labels and avoid additives like hydrogenated vegetable oils. Reduce your intake of sugar, salt and fat.

Don’t see healthy eating as some sort of endurance test. Once you’ve tried a few meals made with simple fresh ingredients, frozen lasagne just won’t cut it any more. Forbid nothing, but keep less healthy stuff to the occasional treat. You may even find you don’t like it as much, once you’ve switched to healthier alternatives.

Enjoy good food. It’s one of life’s great pleasures.
